What Happened in the 2025 Edition of the Hong Kong Open?
Alexandre Muller proved to be the surprise winner at the 2025 edition of the Hong Kong Open when he won a battle of unseeded players in the final against Kei Nishikori. Muller grabbed his maiden ATP title 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
What was interesting to note is that Muller won all the five matches he played in the tournament in three sets. To go with that, he was forced to make a comeback into each one of them after losing the opening set.
All the seeded players were knocked out of the competition before the semifinal stage with top seeded Andrey Rublev falling in the second round to Fabian Marozsan. Lorenzo Musetti and Arthur Fils were the only seeds to make the quarterfinals.
What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the Hong Kong Open?
Held for the first time for 22 years on the men’s circuit, it was Andrey Rublev who took top honours at the Hong Kong Open in 2024. Rublev defeated Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 6-4 in the final to clinch the title.
Rublev, who had a first round bye on account of being the top seed, scraped past Liam Broady in the second round and was then taken to three sets by each of his next two opponents – Arthur Fils and Juncheng Shang.
Second seeded and fellow Russian Karen Khachnov lost the first match he played, as did the fourth seeded Francisco Cerundolo while the third seeded Frances Tiafoe fell in the quarterfinals. Finalist Ruusuvuori got the better of Khachanov but did not face another seeded player in the tournament till the final.
