What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the ATP Los Cabos?
Jordan Thompson had come into this tournament having never won an ATP title and as an eighth seeded player he wasn’t expected to do that either. He wasn’t a favourite for sure.
By the end of the week he was overcoming Casper Ruud 6–3, 7–6 (4) in the final of the competition to lift his maiden ATP trophy. He had earlier faced match-points in his last eight encounter against Alex Michelsen too but saved them to march into the semifinals.
Both the top two seeds, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas were on a collision course for the title but fell in the semifinals. Thompson edged out Zverev by winning the third set tie-breaker while Ruud eased past Tsitsipas in straight sets.
Thompson had earlier been a runner-up at the Rosmalen competition in 2019 and 2023, and would go on to get beaten by Yoshihito Nishioka in the Atlanta Open final in 2024 itself.
