What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the ATP Libema Open?
Australia’s Alex de Minaur followed up a solid season of tennis with a title win at the Libema Open as he crushed Sebastian Korda in the final. De Minaur, who had entered the tournament on the back of eight titles at this level, clinched another with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the title-decider.
De Minaur, who had a first round bye in the competition, did not drop a single set in the entire tournament on his way to the title.
He took Zizou Bergs in the opener, eased past a fighting Milos Raonic in the quarterfinal and then made it through to the final with a win over Ugo Humbert.
Second seeded Tommy Paul took three sets to down Alexei Popyrin in his opener before falling to Korda in the quarterfinals.
What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the ATP Libema Open?
It’s a real surprise that when you top four seeds are Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Borna Ćorić and Alex de Minaur, the winner of the tournament turns out to be Tallon Griekspoor! But that’s what happened in the 2023 edition of the Libema Open.
All the aforementioned four names had an opening round byes and that was followed by Medvedev and Coric falling in the very second round (losing to Adrian Mannarino and Mackenzie McDonald).
Sinner and de Minaur went one better and made the quarterfinals but fell to Emil Ruusuvuori and Griekspoor respectively.
Griekspoor, who had overcome Mikael Ymer in his opener in three sets, then demolished Alexei Popyrin the second before surprising de Minaur in the quarterfinal. He overcame Ruusuvuori in a hard-court semifinal but in straight sets before getting involved in a keen tussle with Jordan Thompson in the title-decider.
Egged on by the home fans, the Dutchman Griekspoor won 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-3 to lift the trophy,
