What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the ATP Swiss Indoors?
After having won the title twice in a row, Felix Auger-Aliassime was dumped out of this year’s competition in the second round, losing to the eventual champion, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Mpetshi Perricard was a surprise champion as he overcame Ben Shelton in title-decider, winning in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (4), making it his second title at this level. He had earlier also won the Lyon Open 2024 on clay.
In winning title, Mpetshi Perricard’s ranking of number 50th on the ATP Tour was the lowest ever since 1975 to clinch a title at this event.
Earlier, in the tournament, Mpetshi Perricard had defeated James Duckworth in his opener, edged out Denis Shapovalov in the quarterfinal and stunned Holger Rune in the semifinals to step on to the court for the final.
What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the ATP Swiss Indoors?
Felix Auger-Aliassime, who had come into this competition as the defending champion, managed to make it two titles in a row by defeating the fourth seeded Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
Seeded sixth in the 2023 edition of the Swiss Indoors, having taken a wildcard to make it to the main draw, the Canadian player needed two tie-breakers to clinch the win.
This was after Auger-Aliassime eased to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the top seeded Holger Rune in the semifinals while Hurkacz was stretched to the third set tie-breaker in his semis.
In the previous year in 2022, Auger-Aliassime had clinched the title by beating Rune in the final.
