Novak Djokovic advanced to his first final of the season when he defeated Grigor Dimitrov at the Miami Open 2025 on Friday. He will take on Jakub Mensik there after the Czech surprised Taylor Fritz in a close match.
A seventh title at the Miami Masters just got closer for Djokovic after he romped to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinal at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Djokovic, who has been on 99 ATP titles for about eight months now, was watched by football great Lionel Messi in the stands as he won 79% of his first serve points.
He made only five unforced errors and Dimitrov had no answers to Djokovic’s excellent serving with the former world number one clinching his place in the final off his second match-point.
Mensik will feature in his maiden ATP Masters 1000 final after he edged out the world number four Taylor Fritz in a difficult but deeply satisfying match, winning 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (4).
In a match lasting nearly two and a half hours, Mensik earned just two break-points and squandered both of them even as he was broken once and lost the second set.
It was in the tie-breakers that Mensik showed real mettle for a 19-year-old and it helped that his serving was at its peak as he smashed down 25 aces in the encounter.
This win means Mensik has jumped up to the 30th in the live rankings and could see a major improvement from that too if he can stop Djokovic from winning his seventh title here.
