A convincing Carlos Alcaraz win at the 2024 Wimbledon final has meant that he will kick-start the season’s final Grand Slam as an overwhelming favourite.
Alcaraz did not give Novak Djokovic a whiff in the final of the season’s only grass Grand Slam, going on to break the Serb’s serve four times in the first two sets.
Djokovic looked like he was out of ideas, no doubt hampered by the injured meniscus that had been operated upon in the lead-up to that tournament.
In the end, Alcaraz completed a straight set win, clinching his second successive at Wimbledon, winning 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4). What this meant that was that a mere age of 21, Alcaraz has already grabbed four Grand Slam titles including one at US Open which will be his next major stop.
And no surprises then that Alcaraz will start off a 33/20 favourite to clinch his second trophy at Flushing Meadows in 2024.
Following him closely is Djokovic himself, who can be expected to get to full fitness by the time the US Open is upon us. He starts 12/5 to add to his sparkling collection of Grand Slam titles.
Jannik Sinner, who fell at the quarterfinal stage at Wimbledon 2024, losing to Daniil Medvedev in five sets, is the third favourite. Bookmakers are offering 49/20 for his win at the US Open.
There is, however, a small matter of the Paris Olympics tennis competition that is still to be played before that and it will be interesting to see how all of these top contenders adjust between grass, clay and hardcourt surfaces, all within a span of less than two months.
