Muller and Munar have never faced off at this level before and even when they have played each other on the Challenger circuit there has been no previous match in a hardcourt competition. Munar leads Muller 3-1.
Muller Makes it the Biggest Shock Yet
In both the previous rounds, Muller was a distant second favourite but managed to get past Marc-Andrea Huesler and Miomir Kecmanovic to set up a quarterfinal outing with Arthur Fils.
Fils has been in the form of his life from the previous season, having risen up to his career best ranking of 20th in the world. Add to that the fact that Fils is much more of a hardcourt player than his opponent and it came as no surprise that Muller started off a 5/2 underdog to win this.
And when Fils took the first set easily, the writing looked to be on the wall.
Except it wasn’t.
In a big surprise, Muller saved 10 break-points in the second set to go on to grab the equaliser before getting an early break in the third set. He consolidated that by breaking Fils yet again in the fifth and seventh game to clinch the semifinal spot.

Munar Ends Musetti’s Campaign
If Muller got the better of a player ranked 20th in the world, Munar went one better by defeating the world number 17 Lorenzo Musetti.
And much like Muller, Munar too had come into this encounter as a heavy second favourite with bookmakers offering 23/10 for a shock win for him here.
Much like Muller, Munar also fell a set behind, getting broken twice in that opening set. In the second, Munar saved two break-points at 5-5 and then raced away to a 5-0 lead in the tie-breaker that followed. He wrapped up the set very soon after that.
The two players exchanged four breaks of serves in the first four games but things took turn for the worse for Musetti when he was broken in the 11th game. Munar faced two more break-points as he served for the match before clinching the win off his second match-point.

This is a surprise semifinal with both players having won quarterfinal matches in which they were 2/1 or more odds to come through. With a rare hardcourt final in the offing, we expect this to be a tough battle that goes all the way to the third set.
