Sabalenka v Andreeva Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Sabalenka leads Mirra 2-1 on head to head. All three matches have come on clay with Sabalenka winning in Madrid on two occasions while Andreeva overcame the world number one at the French Open last year.
Sabalenka Makes it Three in a Row
Kick-starting the new season with a first round bye, Sabalenka hasn’t shown any signs of rustiness as she builds towards defending her Australian Open title.
After getting through against Renata Zarazua and Yulia Putintseva in her first two matches, it was the turn of Marie Bouzkova to face the wrath of some stupendous tennis from Sabalenka in the quarterfinals.
Sabalenka was on court for an hour and 46 minutes, hitting six aces and while she was broken once in the encounter, she clinched a 6-3, 6-4 victory over her opponent.
That made it three successive straight-set win for Sabalenka in the competition and while she now faces the biggest challenge of this campaign, the world number one will be confident enough to stave Mirra off.
Andreeva Eases Past Jabeur
Much like Sabalenka’s campaign, Andreeva too has played three matches following her opening round bye and is yet to drop a set.
After putting Anna Blinkova and Linda Noskova to sword in the first two rounds here, she faced the former top-five player in Ons Jabeur in her quarterfinal.
And while Jabeur hasn’t been in her best form because of fitness related concerns, she had started off well in the competition. Well enough to think that this could be a close encounter.
For a moment it looked like that too when Jabeur looked to serve for the second set to level things out. Mirra wasn’t having any of that too as she broke right back to level things out, saved two more set-points on her own serve at 5-6 before easing to a win in the tie-breaker.
Andreeva might not get as many opportunities against Sabalenka and will need to bring her A game to this encounter.
Sabalenka v Andreeva Prediction
There’s no doubting that Sabalenka will start off as the favourite being the world number one but Andreeva has already shown she is capable of a fight. We expect her to take at least one of the sets to the distance or even the match as a whole to the third set.
Sabalenka v Andreeva Tips
- Over 19.5 games in the set: 5/6
- Sabalenka to win in three sets: 3/1
