Osaka Continues Run with Parks Win
That Osaka has been in some fine fettle has been on display all tournament and it was on show when she took to court for her semifinal against Alycia Parks as well.
Osaka had a bit of an advantage in that Parks was playing her second match of the day while the former world number one had had her rest.
Not that she had a hand in it and all she could do was to take advantage of that – something that she did wonderfully. Osaka needed a mere hour and 13 minutes to get past Parks, winning 6-2, 6-4.
The one issue that Osaka would hope not to carry into this final is her serving – she faced 10 break-points in the match and while she was broken just once, a better opponent might take a bigger toll of that.
Tauson Usurps Montgomery
Having shocked Madison Keys in the quarterfinal round, Tauson was also advantaged by the fact that her opponent in the semifinal had already played a previous match during the day.
Tauson, who has last won a WTA title way back in 2021 – at Luxembourg and Lyon – did not waste too much time either as she romped to a straight-set victory over Montgomery.
In a match lasting an hour and 27 minutes, Tauson finished a 6-4, 6-3 winner despite dropping her service twice. Both those breaks of serves against her came in the first set and after she had already broken first.
The second set was a more straightforward one for Tauson who first missed out on four break-points in the sixth game and then broke in the eighth before finishing out the encounter.
