Fernandez Edgy in Bucsa Win
For the second round in a row, Leylah Fernandez was a whopping 1/7 to win it but unlike what happened in her first round win over Yulia Starodubtseva, the Canadian did not have it easy.
Fernandez, who was a straight-set winner over Starodubtseva, was forced to come back from being a set down against Cristina Bucsa to scrape through to the third round.
In a match lasting two hours and 28 minutes, Fernandez was broken three times by a player ranked 81 places behind her but she rediscovered her mojo at important junctures during the match.
This result and an ensuing third round spot follows a 1-1 record for Fernandez at the United Cup – where she lost to Gauff – and an opening loss at the Adelaide International.
