Naomi Osaka v Belinda Bencic Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players at this level and Bencic leads Osaka 3-1. All of Bencic’s wins came in 2019, in Indian Wells, Madrid and US Open while Osaka won their 2022 encounter in Miami.
Osaka’s Brilliant 2025 Form Continues
Naomi Osaka was forced to retire from the final of the Auckland Open because of fitness concerns. And there were worries again that she could struggle to participate in the Australian Open because of that.
All those concerns seem to have taken a back-seat for now with Osaka garnering her second successive win at this tournament. It was her second three-setter in a row alright but in doing so, she sent out Karolina Muchova.
Having lost the first set in a tad over half hour, Osaka came back to win the next two 6-1, 6-3 to seal her third round berth against Belinda Bencic.
This followed her victory over Caroline Garcia, which was another tricky opener for Osaka that she navigated rather well.
Osaka now faces the biggest challenge she has this season in which she has raked up a 6-1 record and it would be interesting to see how she responds to that.
Bencic Eases Past Lamens
Having already sent Jelena Ostapenko packing in the first round of the tournament, Bencic would have realised she is back to the kind of levels she had been used to performing before she went on her maternity leave.
Her second round win over Suzan Lamens only underlined that further.
Sure, Bencic had some problems in the second set in which she seemed to be unable to hold on to a break of serve easily but once it went into the tie-breaker, she claimed the win.
Much like Osaka, this will be Bencic’s biggest test since her return but she has faced off against Anna Kalinskaya and Ostapenko before this and come off rather well.

On paper, Osaka starts off a 7/10 favourite to grab a win here but we think Bencic at 6/5 is a tempting bet. Either ways we could see a strong fight coming up.
