Holger Rune v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players with both having won once apiece. Kecmanovic went 1-0 up at the 2023 Stockholm Open while Rune levelled things up that very year in Basel.
Rune Rises to the Occasion v Berrettini
Going into his second round match against Holger Rune, Matteo Berrettini had looked to be in the kind of touch that one hasn’t quite seen from him in recent times.
Which is why he was a 8/11 favourite against a player ranked 13th in the world and yet, Rune played some dazzling but tenacious tennis to find himself better his previous season’s showing at this competition.
Having needed five sets to overcome Zhizhen Zhang in the first round, Rune was on court for a further three hours and 26 minutes in his four-set triumph over Berrettini.
In fact, Rune lost his serve more than he got the better of his opponent’s and yet, he won the big moments rather well. In the first set, Berrettini squandered two set-points on his own serve, and then in the fourth he had a chance to push it into the decider when he had two more of those opportunities on Rune’s serve.
The Danish number one now has a chance to get to the round of 16 as he takes on a surprise third round opponent.
Kecmanovic Thrashing for Hurkacz
Miomir Kecmanovic has had his time under the sun having once been a top 30 player but not too many would have expected him to topple Hubert Hurkacz to make the third round.
Not in the manner he did anyway, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 48 minutes.
One should have though with the Serb having reached the fourth round at the Australian Open last season and in the 2022 season as well.
Kecmanovic had earlier needed five sets to go over the line in the first set, beating fellow countryman Dusan Lajovic.
Can he make it to the round of 16 for the third time in four seasons?
Rune v Kecmanovic Prediction
Kecmanovic cannot be taken lightly one believes but Rune’s got the game and if he can play the manner in which he has done so far this tournament, we expect him to go through.
