Beatriz Haddad Maia v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings and it’s 2-2 on head to head. Interestingly, three of these came in 2024 itself with Haddad Maia having won the last two of them including one in Wuhan and another at Seoul.

Haddad Maia Finally Showing Positive Signs

With the kind of start that Beatriz Haddad Maia has had to the season, she would be quite relieved to have registered a straight-set win that has taken her to the third round.

Haddad Maia came through in an hour and 22 minutes, beating Erika Andreeva 6-2, 6-3 to cement her third round spot at this competition for the second year running. She has never made it beyond that though, so that will be one to watch.

But coming back from having lost three successive matches to kick-start the season and to then lose the first set of the opener here against Julia Riera would mean a lot to the Brazilian player.

So while Haddad Maia may or may not go beyond this, she would take some of what has happened over the last 15 days or so into the rest of her career as a reminded how things can be turned around.

Kudermetova Ends Boulter’s Campaign

Like Haddad Maia, even Veronika Kudermetova has been struggling to get the results she needs under her belt.

Her issues were a little deeper than Haddad Maia’s but as far as this season was concerned, Veronika had been scythed through in the first round in Brisbane and then crashed to a quarterfinal loss at the hands of Elise Mertens in Hobart.

Which is why, even when she went in as a favourite against Olivia Gadecki in her opener, there were those who thought – including some from this website – that it won’t be a straightforward result.

It turned out to be a rout of Gadecki and that has been followed by a three-set shock of Katie Boulter, a player ranked 25th in the world.

Kudermetova now has the chance to make it to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time, a feat that she has achieved just twice in her career in Grand Slam tennis.

Haddad Maia v Kudermetova Prediction

This is a tricky one because while the rankings seem to suggest that Haddad Maia should start a favourite, their form points to something totally different – and that is that it’s not easy to pick a winner on this.

Bookmakers are confused too with both starting out 10/11 to win this and it’s just that Haddad Maia’s slightly superior record on hardcourt surfaces pushes us in her direction for this one.
