Alexander Zverev v Ugo Humbert Head to Head
They have faced off three times before this and Zverev leads Humbert 2-1 on head to head. Humbert won in Halle in 2021 but they then faced off at the Paris Masters in 2023 and 2024 and Zverev clinched it both times.
Zverev Hands Fearnley a Lesson
Jacob Fearnley made the third round at the Australian Open, his maiden appearance in the third round at a Grand Slam. However, he was finally shown the door by Alexander Zverev who marched into the fourth round without dropping a set.
Zverev, who had whipped some easy wins over Lucas Pouille and Pedro Martinez in the first two rounds of this tournament, earned his spot in the final 16 with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory over his British opponent.
The match, which lasted a shade over two hours, saw Zverev getting broken for the first time in the tournament, but that wasn’t enough for Fearnley to stand a chance in any of the sets.
In the end, a first serve winning percentage of nearly 80% is all the indicator one needs how drastically Zverev’s fortunes have changed – his mastery over his serve will stand him in a good stead against Humbert as well.
Humbert Gains from Fils Retirement
Ugo Humbert was two sets to one up against Arthur Fils on John Cain Arena but a foot injury to the latter ended the proceedings and just one game after receiving treatment, he opted to retire from the encounter.
That ended what was turning out to be an absorbing encounter between the two Frenchmen in which Humbert had gone in as a 3/5 to win.
Fils grabbed the first set following a flurry of broken serves but Humbert slowly clawed back into the contest. An early break in the second set wasn’t enough for him as he got broken back while serving for the set at 5-4 but he broke right back to level the match.
In the third, Humbert went 3-1 up before sealing off the set without any more drama.
This win follows the straight-set wins over Manuel Gigante and Hady Habib but now comes Humbert’s real test. He has never made a major quarterfinal before this.
Zverev v Humbert Prediction
It’s difficult to see Zverev losing this one in the kind of form he has been and we wouldn’t be surprised if he captures the encounter in straight sets too.
Zverev v Humbert Tips
- Zverev to win in straight sets: 5/4
- Under 39.5 games in the match: 8/11
