Carlos Alcaraz v Jack Draper Head to Head
They have faced off three times and Alcaraz leads 2-1, with his wins coming at Basel in 2022 and Indian Wells Open 2023. Draper won their previous encounter at the 2024 Queen’s Club competition.
Alcaraz Taken to Four by Borges
Having won his previous two rounds in straight sets, Carlos Alcaraz looked to be headed down that direction yet again when he took a two sets to love lead over Nuno Borges in their round three encounter.
However, in what was later described as a “loss of feel”, Alcaraz looked pedestrian for a brief period during the third set and ended up losing the tie-breaker that followed. The Spaniard later explained he was already beginning to struggle in the second set before that third set lapse.
If Borges thought he had a chance though, it was quickly snuffed out as Alcaraz came back to clinch a 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2 win and seal his fourth round spot.
This was after he had overcome Alexander Shevchenko and Yoshihito Nishioka in the first two rounds of the competition with some ease.
Draper Wins Third Five-Setter in a Row
“Usually, I am done after two sets” – that’s what Jack Draper said when asked about his third successive win in five sets at this competition, alluding to the fact that he rarely had the fitness to carry on the work he would have put in early in matches.
Speaking to the media after defeating Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 2-6, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (8) in a tad less than four hours, Draper said he was proud of the kind of effort he had put on his fitness heading into the season.
And the proof is in the pudding with Draper have been stretched to five sets in each of his three matches which have now totalled up more than 12 and a hours of on-court tennis so far.
Draper will not only have to back it up in round four but will also need to up the levels of tennis against a player who is easily one of the best in the world and gunning for the one major he hasn’t won so far.
Alcaraz v Draper Prediction
Alcaraz has enough left in his tank to go with his superior quality to take out Draper but we could see a four-setter here.
