Cori Gauff v Paula Badosa Head to Head
These two players have featured in six matches against each other and both have won three apiece.
Four of these matches came in outdoor hardcourt competitions and it’s 2-2 there.
Two of their meetings came in 2024 and Gauff has won them both – at the China Open and Italian Open.
Gauff Stretched by Bencic
Belinda Bencic’s comeback to the tennis has been a solid one and the fact that she even made the fourth round here following the birth of her child last year is testimony to her grit and will-power.
It seemed like it could have been a lot more though when Bencic became the first player this year to take a set off Cori Gauff when they faced off in the round of 16.
In a rather cagey first set, things looked to be headed towards a tie-breaker when they were level at 4-4 and a couple of breaks later that changed to 5-5. Bencic broke Gauff again in the 11th game before serving it out to clinch the set.
Gauff had played eight matches in 2025 before this, including against Iga Swiatek (at the United Cup), Donna Vekic, Leylah Fernandez, Sofia Kenin and Karolina Muchova and none of them had been able to win a set.
Which is why Bencic might have thought it was her day.
Except that the Gauff of 2025 is made of sterner stuff and she raced away to win the next two sets with two breaks of serves in each of them. Gauff did not face a single break-point in either of them.
She will hope to get back to her best ways when she takes on the former world number two Paula Badosa here.
Badosa Has No Worries against Danilovic
Paula Badosa had struggled to get going in her third round match against Marta Kostyuk but had played well at crucial junctures to win it in three sets.
There were a few of these vital moments in the second set of her fourth round match against Olga Danilovic too and Badosa showed she is playing some of her best tennis by thwarting them with ease.
After winning the first set 6-1, Badosa fell a break down in the second game, and then again in the sixth. On the first occasion she broke right back before getting past Danilovic’s serve when she served to level the match.
And in the tie-breaker that followed, Badosa took complete control by winning five points in a row to earn herself five match-points. She needed just two to complete the victory.
Gauff v Badosa Prediction
While Badosa has won matches against Gauff before this, this could be a different kettle of fish given the American’s form this season. That being said, Badosa would have seen the Bencic encounter and it would be interesting to see if she can use some of those tactics to test out Gauff.
