Madison Keys v Elina Svitolina Head to Head
They have played each other five times between this with Keys leading 3-2 at the moment.
Their first ever meeting came in 2015 in New Haven which Keys won before she made it 2-0 at the 2017 US Open. Svitolina won in their next two match-ups which came in 2019 – at the Australian Open and US Open that year – before Keys went ahead again in 2022 when they faced off at the Adelaide International.
Keys Goes Past Rybakina
Madison Keys overcame the sixth seed Elena Rybakina in her fourth round match as she came back from a lacklustre second set to clinch a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win.
While Rybakina was a 4/6 favourite going into the encounter, it would be difficult to use the word upset to describe the Keys victory as we had noted in our pre-match write-up here.
That was to do with two reasons.
One, Keys had gone into the encounter with the kind of form that’s rare from someone outside the top 10 on the women’s circuit – she was on an eight-match winning streak heading into the match and was 10-1 for the season.
Secondly, Rybakina had serious fitness troubles coming into the encounter too and that’s where Keys would have realised that longer the match carries on, the better her chances are.
Which is why, despite facing four break-points in the very first service game of the decider, Keys would have realised she just needed to hang in.
She did that, exchanged breaks of serves to get to 3-3 before breaking Rybakina twice in as many games to clinch the win.
Svitolina Ends Kudermetova’s Run
Elina Svitolina needed an hour and 20 minutes to end Veronika Kudermetova’s run at this year’s Australian Open and leaving Eva Lys as the only unseeded player left in the women’s singles draw.
With Svitolina having not featured in any tournaments in the lead-up to this competition, it has been a bit of a surprise that she has shown no signs of being away from tennis for any length of time.
The world number 27, followed up her wins over Sorana Cirstea, Caroline Dolehide and Jasmine Paolini with a 6-4, 6-1 drubbing of Kudermetova to make it to the quarterfinals of this tournament for the first time since 2019.
Since then, Svitolina has been a quarterfinalist at each of the other three majors but missed out here including last year when she was knocked out in the fourth round by Linda Noskova.
Madison Keys will prove to be a difficult opponent on current form but Svitolina also has the momentum, making a semifinal appearance an achievable target.
Keys v Svitolina Prediction
On current form, Keys is the favourite as the odds of 3/5 also point out but we would be averse to not looking at Svitolina who looks to be playing without too much burden and has beaten Keys in the past too.
Still, backing Keys to edge this in a hard-fought quarterfinal.
Keys v Svitolina Tips
