Luciano Darderi v Hugo Gaston Acosta Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Cordoba Open in 2023 and Darderi won it in straight sets.
Darderi 1-6 for the Season
Having begun the season ranked 44th, Luciano Darderi has fallen to 60th at the moment. And that has been down to his 1-6 win-loss record for the season.
The more worrying sign for Darderi is that he has neither won in hardcourt competitions and nor has he won on clay.
His only win this season came at the ATP Rio Open in which he was leading Hugo Dellien by a set when his opponent retired from the encounter.
On either side of that result, Darderi has gone down to the likes of Miomir Kecmanovic, Nuno Borges, Pedro Martinez and Jaime Faria – players he would have thought he could get better of at his peak.
But he is definitely not at his best and that could allow his opponent to get a bit of an edge.

Gaston Struggling to Make it Past Openers
When Hugo Gaston defeated Omar Jasika in the first round of the Australian Open, there might have been a bit of relief given that in the first two tournaments he had played in the season he had lost his openers.
At the Canberra Challenger he had fallen to Yosuke Watanuki in the first round while falling in the qualifiers of the Adelaide International after that.
Unfortunately for Gaston, he was forced to retire from his second round encounter in Melbourne and since then has featured in three clay court competitions and lost in the first round at each one of them.
Which is why Gaston was a second favourite in both his qualifying rounds, against James Trotter and Elliot Spizzirri. He won both those matches easily to signal a bit of a change in fortunes which he could carry over to this encounter as well.
