Svitolina Hoping to Come up with Australian Open-Like Showing
Elina Svitolina did not feature in any tune-up tournaments in Australia heading into the season’s first Grand Slam and yet, delivered a fine performance in Melbourne.
She defeated Veronika Kudermetova and Jasmine Paolini on her way to making the quarterfinals at the Australian Open before testing the eventual winner Madison Keys as well.
Since then, however, Svitolina hasn’t been as consistent.
The world number 23 fell in her opener at the Linz Open to Anna Blinkova, and won just a round apiece at both Doha and Dubai.
While those defeats came to Jessica Pegula and Clara Tauson, two in-form opponents, Svitolina will need to get back to her winning ways as she looks to emulate her third round appearance here from the previous season.

Krueger in a Stunning Turnaround Win over Volynets
Having gone into her opener here against Katie Volynets as a 3/5 favourite, not too many would have thought would happen with Ashlyn Krueger what actually happened in their encounter.
Krueger was blown away in the first set by the fellow American player Volynets, dropping three serves in a row to get bagelled.
The turnaround came early in the second set when Krueger managed to hold on to her serve on two occasions in a row.
With her confidence back, Krueger then broke Volynets, dropped her serve again before getting the better of her opponent two more times to level the set-score.
In the third, Krueger served a lot better, having got her rhythm back before breaking Volynets twice to finish off the match.
Krueger had completed a 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 win in an hour and 50 minutes, her first ever at the Indian Wells Open in five attempts. It was also her 12th win of the season to go with just seven losses.
