Casper Ruud v Marcos Giron Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Ruud leads 2-1 having beaten Giron at the 2021 Paris Masters and 2024 Los Cabos Open. Giron won their match at the 2023 Japan Open.
Ruud 10-2 for the Season
A quarterfinalist at this competition last season, Casper Ruud has begun 2025 with the kind of start that should be the perfect initiation to dish out a repeat showing from the previous Indian Wells Open edition.
Ruud won both his singles matches at the United Cup to kickstart the season. And while he was beaten in the second round of the Australian Open, he came back to clinch both his Davis Cup matches and then made a finals appearance at the Dallas Open.
More recently, Ruud won his opener at the Acapulco Open but was forced to withdraw before his second round encounter because of a bout of food poisoning.
The Norwegian number one will be hopeful of being back to full fitness as he takes to court here in a bid to try and reach the third round.

Giron Makes it Past Basilashvili
Nikoloz Basilashvili had been showing signs of coming back to a decent level of tennis in more recent times but Marcos Giron found a way to get past him in his opener.
Giron, who had been ousted in the first round of this competition last year, defeated Basilashvili 7-5, 7-6 (3) in a match that went on for nearly two hours.
He dropped his serve once, early in the second set but came back to break Basilashvili and took the set to a tie-breaker.
This follows a decent showing in the entire season from the racquet of Giron who has made a third round appearance at the Australian Open and quarterfinals at Adelaide and Acapulco as well.
