Frances Tiafoe v Damir Dzumhur Preview
Head-to-Head: This will be their first meeting.
A semifinalist at the Indian Wells Open in 2023, Frances Tiafoe will look to turn things around for the season when he takes to court for his second round match against Damir Dzumhur.
That’s because Tiafoe hasn’t had the kind of start he would liked for the year.
He has made the second round at each of the four tournaments he’s played this year but not gone beyond. At Brisbane, which was his first tournament of the season, Tiafoe had lost to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, then fell to Fabian Marozsan at the Australian Open before losing to Yoshihito Nishioka and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
These are the kind of opponents that Tiafoe has dispatched with utmost ease when in full flow.
A first round bye here helps but he now takes on an opponent whom he should have no issues getting past even on current form.
That’s because Dzumhur is one prefers playing on clay and while the Indian Open surfaces are slower than your average hardcourt court, he hasn’t done too well here.
In fact his opening round win over Roberto Bautista-Agut was just his third in this tournament with Dzumhur having first played here in 2014. And he scraped through it, needing a final set tie-breaker to get through.
Backing Tiafoe to clinch a win with ease.
Tiafoe v Dzumhur prediction: Tiafoe to win in straight sets: 5/6

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard v Fabian Marozsan Preview
Head-to-Head: Mpetshi Perricard and Marozsan will be facing off for the first time.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is on his Indian Wells Open debut and has started off with an opening round bye thanks to being ranked 30th in the world at the moment.
And after a brilliant previous season in which he grabbed title wins at Lyon and Basel, Mpetshi Perricard looked to have kickstarted 2025 on a positive note as well when he reached the semifinals in Brisbane. Wins over Frances Tiafoe and Jakub Mensik would have been a shot in the arm for the Frenchman.
Unfortunately for Mpetshi Perricard, he fell to Reilly Opelka there and since then has won just two more matches. One of them came in the Davis Cup and the other was against Zhizhen Zhang in the first round of the ATP Dubai.
Can he turn things around against a player who has found his own place on the tour this year?
Fabian Marozsan has climbed to 54th in the world after having begun the season on 58th but that’s been thanks to his performances in January. More recently, and much like Mpetshi Perricard, Marozsan has failed to get the results that he would have liked.
In his last seven matches before this tournament, Marozsan has won just three – which is why a 6-3, 6-2 drubbing of Pedro Martinez in the first round here, while on expected lines, would have been a big relief.
He can be expected to give Mpetshi Perricard a fight here.
Mpetshi Perricard v Marozsan prediction: Three sets in the match: 6/5
