Alexei Popyrin v Zizou Bergs Head to Head
They have faced each other only once before and that came on the Challenger circuit in 2022. Bergs had won that encounter.
Popyrin in Dire Straits This Season
Alexei Popyrin shot up to 23rd in the world when he surprised the world of tennis with a title win at the Canadian Masters last year. It was a fitting moment that had followed a solid season of tennis for Popyrin.
Unfortunately for the Aussie, things have gone horribly wrong this year.
Featuring in his home swing to kick-start the year, Popyrin lost in the first round at both, the Brisbane International and Australian Open.
And as if to prove it was nothing to do with the venue but more a case of his own form, Popyrin fell in his openers at Rotterdam and Doha as well before finally winning a match at Dubai.
That’s where Popyrin defeated Hady Habib but Marin Cilic ended his stay in that tournament in the second round.

Bergs Tames Quinn
In contrast to Popyrin’s form this season, Zizou Bergs’ results have been something to behold.
He started off as a qualifier at the Auckland Open and made it all the way to the final there. Later he was a semifinalist at the Marseille Open and won his openers at both, Dubai and Doha.
Bergs was a 3/5 favourite as a result against Ethan Quinn in his first round match here and lived up to that billing.
In a match lasting an hour and 47 minutes, Bergs won 7-6 (2), 6-3 to reach the second round.
He has already moved up to his career-best ranking of 53rd in the world and with another win here, Bergs could well break into the top 50 for the first time.
Popyrin v Bergs Predictions
Bergs has a very good chance of helping himself to a win here thanks to his own run and his opponent’s struggles. A straight-set victory could be on the cards too.
