Sebastian Korda v Gael Monfils Head to Head
Korda and Monfils have never faced off before this.
Korda Unable to Reproduce Adelaide Form
Sebastian Korda had taken a break from tennis in 2024 after undergoing a surgery on his injured elbow, not featuring in any tennis from August onward.
He came back this year and immediately found some success in Adelaide where, aided by a withdrawal from Thanasi Kokkinakis and two wins over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Miomir Kecmanovic, he made the final.
There, Korda lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime and from there on he has played just two more tournaments – the Australian Open and Marseille Open.
At the former, Korda edged out Lukas Klein before losing to Aleksandar Vukic in the second while at the latter, he was sent packing in the very first round by Otto Virtanen.
Korda hasn’t played since, which means that after a first round bye here, by the time he takes to court again for his second round, it would be his first competitive match in nearly a month.

Monfils Eases Past Struff
Gael Monfils might not have made a winning return when he featured in the ATP Dubai following his fourth round appearance at the Australian Open but he did not have any such worries here.
Playing a tricky opponent in the form of Jan-Lennard Struff in his opener here, Monfils carved out a 6-4, 6-4 victory to park himself into the second round.
Having made a fourth round appearance here last year and started off this season with a title win in Auckland, 38-year-old Monfils continued to show that age is just a number as he coasted to his win in less than an hour and a half.
Struff fought hard to come back from a break down and levelled things out at 4-4 in the first set but Monfils wrested control after that. He broke Struff in the ninth game before serving it out and then again in the third game of the second set.
He will now have a good chance against the struggling Korda.
