Beatriz Haddad Maia v Sonay Kartal Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between Haddad Maia and Kartal.
Haddad Maia Has Just Two Wins This Season
That Beatriz Haddad Maia is still ranked 17th despite the kind of season she has had is a big surprise. Because the way she has played has definitely not looked like a top 20 player would.
Or even a top 50 for that matter.
Because over a period of six tournaments, Haddad Maia has won just two matches and lost seven of them, making it one of her worst starts to a year in a long time.
Those wins came at the Australian Open against Julia Reira and Erika Andreeva but more vitally she has lost to Xinyu Gao, Laura Siegemund, Veronika Kudermetova, Rebecca Sramkova and Anastasia Potapova at various points in the season.

Kartal Wins First Main Draw Match of the Season
Sonay Kartal might not have even been there in the main draw of this tournament had it not been for a few withdrawals. She had already lost her second qualifier to Clervie Ngounoue but made it through as a lucky loser.
And as luck would it have for the lucky loser, Kartal was drawn to take on Varvara Lepchenko, a 38-year-old, 112th-ranked player.
The Brit missed three set-points in the first set tie-breaker before clinching it off the fourth, and then broke Lepchenko twice in the second set to grab the win.
This turned out to be her first main draw victory of the year with Kartal having lost her opener at the Australian Open and Abu Dhabi Open and failed to qualify in Doha.
Haddad Maia v Kartal Predictions
This will be a golden chance for Haddad Maia to try and add to her paltry win count for the season as she tries to accumulate a few ranking points to her kitty. Interestingly, despite the parity in the rankings of the two players, Haddad Maia is 17/20 to win this.
