Gaston Makes it Another Straight-Set Win
When Hugo Gaston took to courts for the start of this tournament in the first qualifier, he was ranked 93rd in the world.
He had also won just one main draw match all season and that had come against Omar Jasika, an Aussie wildcard he met in the first round of the Australian Open.
As a result Gaston was a second favourite at both those qualifiers, but rather surprisingly, dropped just seven games on his way to the main draw.
In the first round here, he was drawn to take on Luciano Darderi who had himself come into the tournament without any form going his way and Gaston took full advantage of that. The Frenchman won 6-3, 6-3 to record his first ever win in Indian Wells.
