Grigor Dimitrov v Nuno Borges Head to Head
They have faced off once before and that came at the Australian Open last year. Borges had won that third round encounter
Dimitrov Fitness Remains the Key
Grigor Dimitrov hasn’t had the kind of year he would have liked with fitness concerns having crept up on a regular basis for him this season.
It started with a retirement from his semifinal match at the Brisbane International and he went into the Australian Open with the same issue. He was forced to retire from his opener there.
More than a month later, Dimitrov was knocked out of the Qatar Open in the very first round but any positive feelings around the Bulgarian having completed the match quickly dissipated when he failed to continue after the first set in Dubai.
Playing Christopher O’Connell, Dimitrov was bagelled in the first set and chose to call it quits.
The big question, at the time of writing, is if Dimitrov will even take to the court and if he does, will he complete the match.

Borges Goes Past Rinderknech
Nuno Borges had a good start to the season when he won three matches in a row to make it to the semifinal at the Auckland Open. He would also enter the third round at the Australian Open.
Since then, Borges has won his openers at each of the following four tournaments including the Davis Cup but in four of them he has lost the second match.
In the fifth, that’s here in Indian Wells, Borges needed three sets to continue with that run of opening round victories, as he edged past Arthur Rinderknech in a match lasting two hours and 22 minutes.
He won 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 to enter round two where he might have a good chance of getting the injured Dimitrov. This will be the first time that Borges will be playing in the second round here.
Dimitrov v Borges Predictions
This is a tough call to make given what’s gone on with Dimitrov’s injury and we would probably refrain from betting on this one. Still, given Borges’ form and Dimitrov’s fitness we would have to go with the former’s win.
