Brandon Nakashima v Matteo Arnaldi Head to Head
This will be their second meeting with Arnaldi having won in their first which was held in Delray Beach last month.
Nakashima Eases Past Hijikata
It took Brandon Nakashima some time in the first set of his second round match before waltzing past Rinky Hijikata in the second set to clinch his best ever showing at the Indian Wells Masters.
Seeded 32nd in the tournament, Nakashima had a first round bye which meant he had already made it a joint-best showing at this tournament for himself.
In a match lasting an hour and 33 minutes, Nakashima was held at bay for the first 11 games of the match before he went on a breaking spree. He overcame his opponent’s serve on three occasions to win 7-5, 6-1 and proceed to the third.
This was just Nakashima’s seventh win of the season but fourth in five matches to signal a turnaround of fortunes for the year. Can he now enter the fourth round, something he has never done in a Masters 1000 event?

Arnaldi Shocks Rublev
Matteo Arnaldi has had an up and down kind of a season having begun with a first round loss at the Australian Open and having also endured a first round defeat at the Mexican Open in the previous week.
In sharp contrast he also made the quarterfinal at Dallas, semifinal in Delray Beach and now, in the Indian Wells Masters, Arnaldi has entered the third round of the Indian Wells Masters for the first time in his career.
More importantly Arnaldi has done that by first edging out Aleksandar Kovacevic in the opening round and then stunning Andrey Rublev in the second.
Arnaldi was on court for an hour and 48 minutes for his 6-4, 7-5 victory despite being down a break in the first set and then two breaks in the second.
With this kind of form, Arnaldi will fancy a chance to make it to the fourth round, the way he had in Miami last year.
