Carlos Alcaraz v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the 2023 French Open where Alcaraz won in straight sets.
Alcaraz Sends Halys Packing
It took Carlos Alcaraz just an hour and nine minutes to get the campaign started to defend his Indian Wells Masters.
Alcaraz pulled off a fine performance in his second round win over Halys, defeating him 6-4, 6-2 to enter round three. This followed a first round bye.
In a tournament that has already seen Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev bite the dust, Alcaraz faced just one break-point and saved it, smashed seven aces and won 20 of his 21 first serve points to grab the victory.
Following on from a title in Rotterdam earlier this year and a quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open, Alcaraz will now look to get past an in-form Denis Shapovalov to find himself a place in the round of 16.

Shapovalov Continues to Exhibit Form
Denis Shapovalov’s brilliant on-court performances extended by another match as he clinched a sparkling 6-3, 6-2 win over Adam Walton in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters.
For a player who had started off the season with three defeats from the first five matches he played, Shapovalov has now won nine of the following 10.
And the latest of those victims was Walton who was blown away from the court in a matter of an hour and 17 minutes.
Shapovalov did lose his serve once apiece in both the sets and Walton did have a bit of a chance in the second set when he took a 2-0 lead but that was about as close as he could get.
The Canadian broke back three times in that set to complete the last rites.
Alcaraz v Shapovalov Predictions
Alcaraz is an obvious favourite and he becomes a tougher opponent on these surfaces which are typically not as quick as some of the other hardcourt ones. Still, Shapovalov has some rhythm about him and with that comes the confidence to take on some of the best. We could see some fight in at least one of the sets.
