Griekspoor and Watanuki have never faced off before this.
Griekspoor Enters Fourth Round with Mpetshi Perricard Win
Tallon Griekspoor has made three previous appearances at the Indian Wells Masters and has never made past the third round before this. Which is why a third successive victory in this year’s tournament has meant he has already made it his best ever showing in Indian Wells.
And it came at the expense of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard whom he defeated 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the third round. The match lasted an hour and 19 minutes.
Griekspoor, who was a semifinalist in Dubai before this, hammered 10 aces and while he was broken once in the match, it came after he had gone 2-1 up in the encounter. In the second set, it was just one-way traffic as Griekspoor eased to the win.
This came at the close heels of Griekspoor’s two three-set wins with the Dutchman taking out Miomir Kecmanovic and the world number two, Alexander Zverev in the first couple of rounds.

Watanuki Continues Upset Run by Beating Tiafoe
Yosuke Watanuki had featured in Indian Wells just once before this and in that 2023 edition of this tournament he had failed to make it out of the qualifiers.
So Watanuki had already bettered that when he entered the main draw this time but his performances haven’t ended there.
The Japanese player went on to edge out Alexander Bublik in three sets in the first round and was met with some great fortune as Tomas Machac retired from their second round encounter.
There wasn’t too much luck involved with Watanuki’s third round win though. Entering the match against Frances Tiafoe as a 2/1 underdog, Watanuki went past his American opponent 6-4, 7-6 (6) to grab a fourth round spot.
The hour and 54 minutes long contest saw Watanuki save two break-points in the first set before he won it with a break of serve at 4-5. In the second set, Watanuki saved two set-points and broke Tiafoe twice when he served for the set before winning the tie-breaker.
Can he now pull off something unimaginable in this fourth round encounter?
