Qinwen Zheng v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one apiece.
Zheng clinched the first at the Canadian Open in 2023 before Kostyuk levelled things out at the Stuttgart Open last year.
Zheng Eases Past Sun
With Lulu Sun finally managing to turn things around following a horrible start to the season, it looked like she might be able to put Qinwen Zheng under some sort of pressure in their third round match.
But while there were moments in which Sun looked like she could test her Chinese opponent, Zheng came away in an hour and 46 minutes to clinch a place in the fourth round.
Zheng had herself been struggling for form with just one win all season in the lead-up to this tournament. She had a first round bye before easing past Victoria Azarenka in the second round.
Here, she traded breaks in the first set before getting the better of Sun’s serve in the seventh game to clinch the opener. It was in the second set that Qinwen came under pressure, losing her serve three times despite going up a break.
It was in the 11th game that Zheng earned that decisive break which was followed by her serving out the match.

Kostyuk Sends Dolehide Packing
Marta Kostyuk had dropped a mere four games in her second round win over Robin Montgomery and while Caroline Dolehide tested her resolve a little more than that, she came away an easy winner in the third round as well.
In a match lasting an hour and 44 minutes, Kostyuk registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory to march into the fourth round of this competition for the second year running. Last year, Kostyuk had made an appearance in the semifinal of this tournament.
The Ukrainian, who had earlier made the third round at the Australian Open and entered the quarterfinals in Doha, saved eight of the nine break-points she faced and got the better of her opponent’s serve on 13 occasions.
She will now be up against a resurgent Zheng and that could make this a lot more challenging encounter than it might have been when her opponent had been struggling with her fitness a month or so ago.
