Down a set after having gone into his third round match with not a lot of sparkling performances in the season, Arthur Fils would have thought he was facing another early defeat this season.
He did make a brief comeback when he broke Lorenzon Musetti in the fifth game there but his Italian opponent came back in the eighth game with a break, soon pushing it into a tie-breaker. He even had a match-point in the 12th game.
It was in that tie-breaker that Fils finally scripted his comeback with a 7-4 win and then won the decider with one break of serve off the only break-point he got.

Giron Moving up to Career-Best after Popyrin Win
Marcos Giron was ranked 48th in the world before the start of this tournament and having lost in the first round of this tournament last year, he has already done well to get close to his career-best ranking of 37th.
Having edged out Nikoloz Basilashvili in a difficult but straight-set win in the first round, Giron then overcame Casper Ruud in the second in another tight match that went to three sets.
In his latest victory, Giron came back from being a set down to clinch a place in the fourth round by beating Alexei Popyrin.
Giron won 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and 33 minutes to register his 10th win for the season to go with four defeats. Can he now cause another surprise?
