Cerundolo Shocks de Minaur
Alex de Minaur hasn’t been easy to dislodge all season and he was a 1/4 favourite against his fourth round opponent Francisco Cerundolo.
Cerundolo, however, took advantage of the slower hardcourt conditions to clinch a straight-set win over his 10th-ranked opponent and make it to the quarterfinals of this event for the first time.
In fact his 7-5, 6-3 win in an hour and 51 minutes ensured that Indian Wells Open became only the second hardcourt Masters 1000 event where he had made the quarterfinals.
Earlier in the tournament, Cerundolo had overcome Mackenzie McDonald and Botic van de Zandschulp to set up this meeting with de Minaur who was 15-4 for the season.
