Petra Kvitova v Sofia Kenin Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Kvitova leads 2-1 with wins at the Miami 2018 and Madrid 2019. Kenin won their most recent encounter at the 2020 French Open.
Kvitova 0-2 after Comeback
Petra Kvitova had taken a break from competitive tennis for the whole of 2024 as she went on her maternity leave and has returned in 2025 after the birth of her son. It’s not been the kind of return that Kvitova would have hoped for though.
In her very first match, Kvitova went down to Jodie Burrage in Austin with her opponent coming back from being a set down in that encounter.
She then participated in the Indian Wells Open and again, took the opening set off Varvara Gracheva as well only to lose in three again.
This time around Kvitova enters a tournament she had won the last time she took to court in – it was in 2023 and she would defeat Elena Rybakina in the final.
So while the momentum and form might not be with Kvitova, there’s no doubting she would automatically feel a lot better taking to the courts where she had grabbed the tournament.
Kenin 9-7 for the Season
While Sofia Kenin has a winning record for the season and has made the quarterfinal of the WTA 1000 event in Dubai, she hasn’t quite managed to bring things back to her best. And her best was at a time when she won five tournaments in the 2019-20 period including a title victory at the Australian Open.
Fitness and form did not remain Kenin’s best ally since her fifth and final tournament victory in Lyon in 2020 and she took a bad rankings tumble post that – falling to outside the top 200 by the end of 2022.
Kenin has slowly tried to make a comeback and some of that spark from the past can be seen in the manner in which she has played this season.
In that very tournament in Dubai, for instance, Kenin had gotten past Donna Vekic, Marta Kostyuk and Jasmine Paolini to enter the last eight stage.
She also won her opener at the Indian Wells Open before this and looked to have started well in the second round against Daria Kasatkina before losing in three.
Bet365 has Kenin as a 2/5 favourite here though against a player who hasn’t won a match in over 18 months.
Kvitova v Kenin Predictions
On paper, Kenin starts off a favourite – as mentioned earlier, she is 2/5 to win this – but a lot of that is down to the fact that Kvitova, following her return is a bit of an unknown quantity. It could be a matter of time before Kvitova starts winning matches after having shown in her previous two appearances this year she still has it in her.
And at 2/1, a Kvitova win as a result of that, looks like a tempting option.
