The remaining men’s third round matches at the 2025 Miami Open will continue on Monday, March 24 as the likes of Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz take to court. Get the best predictions and tips for the day from ATP Miami Open 2025.
Alexander Zverev vs Jordan Thompson
On paper this shouldn’t too much of a problem for Alexander Zverev, who is taking on the world number 37 Jordan Thompson.
There are two factors to note here though – Zverev’s form and the fact that over their four meetings before this, both have won two. The two Thompson wins came at the 2023 Japan Open and 2024 Los Cabos Open which gives the Aussie a bit of a chance here.
Zverev does enter this match on the back of a solid performance against Jacob Fearnley, defeating his British opponent 6-2, 6-4. That, however doesn’t erase the fact that since the Australian Open final, Zverev holds a 5-5 win-loss record and he will need to earn a few more wins in a row to get himself back to his best.
Thompson shocked Marcos Giron in the first round, coming back from the loss of the first set before edging out Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in two tie-breakers. Can he push Zverev hard here – we think so.
Zverev v Thompson Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
Alex De Minaur vs Joao Fonseca
In what will be the first ever meeting between these two players, the world number 11 Alex de Minaur will hold an edge over the 60th-ranked Joao Fonseca but only just.
De Minaur starts off a 17/20 favourite against Fonseca, who has already defeated Learner Tien and Ugo Humbert in the first two rounds here.
Fonseca, who is on his debut at Miami, can be expected to move up to 58th in the rankings even if he loses this but a win could get him closer to the top 50. And a win could be a possibility given his performance all season has propelled the Next-Gen player towards the kind of confidence that has made the world of tennis sit up and take notice.
The Brazilian player is also coming off a title win at the Phoenix Challenger and while de Minaur is 16-5 for the season, he had lost three of the five matches he had played before the Miami Masters. We could see a close one here with Fonseca edging ahead.
De Minaur v Fonseca Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
Arthur Fils vs Frances Tiafoe
World number 17 Frances Tiafoe and the 18th-ranked Arthur Fils will be facing off for the first time they feature in the third round in Miami.
Fils did not have a lot of trouble in his second round encounter against Gabriel Diallo as he led his opponent by a set before his opponent retired due to injury. This performance follows his quarterfinal appearance at the Indian Wells Masters last week.
On the other hand, Tiafoe edged out Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round but that comes on the back of a rather poor season for the American otherwise. Before that Fokina win, Tiafoe was 5-5 on win-loss.
What’s also interesting to note here is that Tiafoe had made the quarterfinals of this event in 2019 following which his performance here has dipped steadily. Fils might just be able to take advantage of this.
Fils v Tiafoe Tip: Fils to win: 8/11
Adam Walton vs Coleman Wong
A shock win over the 1/10 favourite Ben Shelton has taken Coleman Wong to his first ever appearance in the third round of a competition. And what’s interesting is that Wong will have a decent shot at going even further when he takes on the 89th-ranked Adam Walton.
Walton is a lucky loser, having lost to Tristan Schoolkate and then made it to the second round straightaway after being awarded an opening bye. He then defeated Luciano Darderi to enter round three.
Before this, Walton had also won a round at the Indian Wells Masters, while Wong hadn’t grabbed a single victory in any of the main draws.
Given what’s at stake, we could see a gritty battle for a rare place in the fourth round here.
Walton v Wong Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
