Grigor Dimitrov v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head
There have been two previous occasions on which these two players have faced off. Both those matches came in 2022.
Dimitrov won in Rome while Nakashima made it 1-1 at the US Open that year.
Dimitrov Wards Past the Khachanov Threat
It took Grigor Dimitrov some time but in the end he made it past Karen Khachanov in a fighting third round encounter.
Dimitrov, a runner-up at this tournament last year where he had gone down to the world number one Jannik Sinner, was in early strife in his match against Khachanov but sealed off a 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5 result.
This will come as a bit of a relief for Dimitrov who has had fitness issues all season but has now made it to the fourth round at both, the Indian Wells Masters and here in Miami.
Making these results even more valuable for Dimitrov as they prove he is back to full fitness is the fact in both these tournaments, the Bulgarian needed three, long sets to come through the third round.
At Indian Wells, he had lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth but he should start off feeling a lot more confident against Brandon Nakashima here.
Nakashima Ends Goffin’s Run
Brandon Nakashima was on Carlos Alcaraz’s path – or should we say it was the other way around – but David Goffin’s shock win over the world number three cleared it for the American.
And while Nakashima did not have to easy against Goffin, he was able to make it through to the fourth round with a three-set win over his Belgian opponent.
Nakashima, who had made a slow start to the season with just one win from his first five matches of the year, looks to have come back well over the last few tournaments.
He made the quarterfinal at the Delray Beach Open, semifinal in Acapulco and then entered round four at the Indian Wells Masters before losing to Ben Shelton.
Here in Miami, Nakashima has already topped his best-ever showing of a second round appearance (in 2022 and 2023) and will now hope he can pull off a bit of an upset.
Dimitrov v Nakashima Predictions
We will have to back the bookmakers’ favourite here with Dimitrov starting out an 11/20 favourite to win this. The Bulgarian number one has done well in Miami in the past, looks to be at full fitness and is coming off a couple of solid performances here.
