Jessica Pegula v Alexandra Eala Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between Pegula and Eala.
Pegula Thwarts Raducanu’s Challenge
Emma Raducanu looked to have found her rhythm and made her maiden WTA 1000 quarterfinals but Jessica Pegula proved to be good for her in that encounter to end the Brit’s journey.
Pegula survived a second set fightback from Raducanu before taking advantage of her opponent’s fitness struggles to win 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2.
In a two and a half hour battle, Pegula hit some clean winners and while she faced a resurgent Raducanu in the second set, she managed to quell her opponent’s challenge by winning the third set with ease.
This follows Pegula’s wins over Bernarda Pera, Anna Kalinskaya and Marta Kostyuk in the previous rounds, aiding her in making it to the semifinals of this event for the third time in her career.
Before this, Pegula had won the Austin Open title earlier this year but then fell in the fourth round at the Indian Wells Open.
She now faces a player who has caused major shockwaves in this competition.
Eala Stuns Swiatek
Alexandra Eala had entered the Miami Open 2025 with two career WTA match wins under her belt.
By the time she overcame Katie Volynets and Jelena Ostapenko in the first two rounds here, she had doubled her win count but the streak did not end there. Eala shocked Madison Keys in the third round and was then aided by a walkover from the injured Paula Badosa that set her up for her quarterfinals against the world number two.
Iga Swiatek might not have won any titles this year but it must be added that her performances against players ranked outside the top 10 has been quite clinical.
Which is why, going up against the world number 140, Swiatek was a whopping 1/14 to win.
Teenager Eala was having none of that and she felled the five-time Grand Slam winner with consummate ease, winning 6-2, 7-5 to reach the semifinal. And in doing so, Eala would have broken into the top 75 of the WTA Rankings.
Eala broke the Swiatek on a whopping eight occasions as she snuffed out her opponent’s fightback in the second set to grab a win.
Pegula v Eala Predictions
Eala’s brilliant run makes her a dangerous opponent but we will need to quickly add here that the surprise factor might not be as much right now and Pegula will enter this encounter more prepared. We still think Eala will put up a strong front and we could see a keen tussle that goes into the third set.
