Novak Djokovic v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head
This will be the 14th match between these two players with Djokovic having won 12 of the previous 13. They last played in 2023 – three times – and Djokovic won them all.
This includes victories at the Australian Open, Italian Open and Paris Masters that year.
Dimitrov’s only win over Djokovic came in 2013 in Madrid.
Djokovic Eases Past Korda
Novak Djokovic did have a few issues in the second set against Sebastian Korda but brought out a different level from what was on offer all match to clinch it 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Having entered this tournament with three successive defeats under his belt, Djokovic looked to have been relieved when he defeated Rinky Hijikata in the second round following an opening bye.
Post that, he’s gotten better with each passing game, even defeating Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth round. Here, against Korda, Djokovic romped to an easy win the first set but then fell 0-3 behind.
Korda served for the set at 5-3 but it was here that Djokovic raised his game, broke his opponent and then grabbed the victory in the tie-breaker that followed.
What makes things a lot easier for Djokovic is not just the manner in which he has reached the semifinal – without dropping a set that is – but also the fact that two of his biggest opponents, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev are both long gone from the tournament.
Add the fact that he has that kind of a head to head against Grigor Dimitrov and we are looking at a player who knows he can win his maiden title of the season.
Dimitrov Shrugs off Cerundolo
Grigor Dimitrov might have lost 12 times to Novak Djokovic before this semifinal but he will at least enter the match in a much better frame of mind than he was last month.
Because if his quarterfinal win over Francisco Cerundolo proved anything it was that Dimitrov has become a lot fitter than he was earlier this year. Sure he needed some medical attention but you would expect that while playing in the heat and humidity of Miami.
Especially when the match ends up with a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3) scoreline in favour of Dimitrov.
This also was the first time this season that the Miami 2024 finalist had won four matches in a row in a tournament – having come into the tournament on the back of five wins and five losses.
Against Djokovic, Dimitrov will hope to find a way to remain in the contest and get to his A game when he has those chances that the six-time winner offers at times to his opponents.
Djokovic v Dimitrov Predictions
Backing Djokovic to win this but we could see Dimitrov take this into the third set. This could be down to the break that Dimitrov has had as opposed to Djokovic who was forced to play on Thursday.
