Taylor Fritz v Jakub Mensik Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2023 US Open when Mensik was still a raw, 17-year-old and Fritz had dropped a mere three games on his way to the second round.
Fritz Misses Six Match-Points v Berrettini
While Taylor Fritz had defeated Matteo Berrettini every single time they had faced off before this, things got a tad more challenging for the American in their fifth meeting.
And that was down to Fritz’s inability to finish, missing six match-points in the match before coming through 7-5, 6-7 (7), 7-5 in two hours and 44 minutes.
Fritz had come into the match with straight-set wins over Lorenzo Sonego, Denis Shapovalov and Adam Walton and looked to be headed in a similar direction when he bagged the first set against Berrettini before earning a couple of match-points on his opponent’s serve.
He missed them both but then took a 6-3 lead in the tie-breaker that followed. Missed again.
It was only in the final set that he found an opening past Berrettini and this time, clinched the match to make it four wins in a row for the first time this season.

Mensik Reaches Maiden Masters 1000 Semifinals
Jakub Mensik has been making waves around the tennis world and by making his first ever semifinals at an ATP Masters event, he has broken into the top 35 of the world rankings for the first time in his career.
He did so with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Arthur Fils at Hard Rock Stadium.
Having come into the match with a three-day break following the withdrawal of Tomas Machac from his previous match, Mensik looked the fresher of the two as expected.
Fils, who had played a three-setter against Alexander Zverev just three days before this fought his way through to the tie-breaker but once he fell there, Mensik took full control of the encounter.
This follows third round appearances at Brisbane, Auckland and the Australian Open for Mensik.
He now faces a top-10 player for the 12th time in his career and with a 6-5 win-loss record against them one can expect him to put up another show.
