Marie Bouzkova, Alycia Parks and Laura Siegemund will be among those in the first round at the 2025 Marrakech Open who will take to court on Monday, March 31. Get the best predictions and tips for the day from ATP Marrakech Open 2025.
Marie Bouzkova vs Aleksandra Krunic
While the 51st-ranked Marie Bouzkova and the world number 290 Aleksandra Krunic have never faced off in the main draw of any event, they did play each other once before in the qualifiers of the 2022 Cincinnati Open. Bouzkova had won that encounter.
And by the looks of things in recent times and based on what the bookmakers are saying, we can expect Bouzkova to repeat the same dose. She is a 1/4 favourite coming into this one despite being on a five-match losing streak.
It was streak that begun when she lost in the Brisbane International quarterfinals in the first week of January this year. Since then she has lost her openers at Adelaide, Australian Open, Indian Wells Open and Miami Open.
The only reason why she holds the edge here is because Krunic has done nothing of note in recent years. Having hit a career-best ranking of 39th in the world in 2018, Krunic has fallen to outside the top 100 for starters and now is dangerously close to going outside the top 300.
She made it to the main draw here with easy wins in the qualifiers but overcoming the world number 51 could turn out to be a bridge too far.
Bouzkova v Krunic Tip: Bouzkova to win: 1/4
Alycia Parks vs Iva Jovic
This will be the first meeting between Alycia Parks and Iva Jovic and it holds the promise of being a thriller. At that’s where the odds are pointing with both starting out at 5/6 to win this.
Part of this could be down to the fact that Parks doesn’t have a great record on clay having featured in seven tournaments last year on this surface and won just one main draw match. Jovic, on the other hand, played on clay for the first time in 2024 and looked to have taken to it well.
In the three tournaments that Jovic featured in on red dirt last year, made the final of one and a quarterfinal of another – both on the ITF circuit – and in a WTA 125 competition in Charleston she reached the second round.
In fact it was Jovic’s performances on clay that helped her end the 2024 season ranked 189th in the world after having started off at 654th.
We could see Jovic edge past Parks here.
Parks v Jovic Tip: Jovic to win: 5/6
Laura Siegemund vs Laura Pigossi
In this first-time battle between the two Lauras, Siegemund looks to have a big edge over Pigossi as she starts a 1/4 favourite here.
Siegemund, who had made the quarterfinal of this tournament last year, is coming off an underwhelming showing in the hardcourt competitions so far in 2025. Sure, she made the third round of the Australian Open but since then, Siegemund hasn’t won a main draw encounter.
In fact, Siegemund failed to qualify for either of the two WTA 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
Pigossi has had it worse as she scrapes through the lower levels of tennis, having just a 5-9 win loss record despite playing most of her tennis on the ITF circuit.
She did make it to the quarterfinals of a clay court competition in Vacaria in Brazil last week but Siegemund will be a bigger threat than any that she has faced through most part of recent times.
Expecting Siegemund to win this in two.
Siegemund v Pigossi Tip: Siegemund to win in straight sets: 4/5
