Luciano Darderi v Tristan Boyer
This is a first round match between Luciano Darderi, ranked 57th in the world and the world number 121 Tristan Boyer. Boyer has beaten Darderi in their only previous meeting, which while it came on the Challenger circuit, was also hosted on clay.
Darderi has had an underwhelming start to the season with just two wins under his belt at the highest level to go with a whopping eight losses. It needed him to switch over to the Challengers to finally get a few wins under his belt as Darderi made the final of the Neapol Challenger last week.
He had a first round bye here and while he takes on a player who is more than 60 places behind him, there will be a few question-marks around his play.
Boyer himself hasn’t been in the best of form either. He kick-started the season by qualifying for the Australian Open but other than his first round win there, he has won just one round elsewhere – at the Indian Wells Masters.
He does have a decent record on clay but Darderi, despite his form, is much more at home on this surface having had a career record of 171-96 on red dirt across all levels of tennis.
Darderi v Boyer Tip: Darderi to win: 11/20
Alexandre Muller v Hugo Dellien
World number 41 Alexandre Muller will be facing the 102nd-ranked Hugo Dellien for the first time in his career and despite the obvious difference in their rankings – and their winning odds (1/2 for Muller to 8/5 for a Dellien win) – this could turn out to be an interesting one.
First things first and Muller’s form this year has been excellent. Good enough for him to hit a career-best ranking of 41st at the moment having started the year ranked 67th. This has been down to his maiden ATP title he won in Hong Kong and then a clay court final at the Rio Open where he went down to Sebastian Baez.
Where Dellien could come into his own is the fact that he is a solid clay-courter who has himself found some form this season. Like Muller, there has been a marked improvement for Dellien in 2025 as he has climbed more than 20 spots from his season-beginning ranking of 124th
Dellien has also done well on the Challenger circuit this year, making the final in Rosario and the semifinal in Merida. And by defeating Aleksandar Vukic in the first round here, Dellien has also won his first ever main draw match at this level for the year.
He can be expected to put up a fight here.
Muller v Dellien Tip: Dellien to win a set – Yes: 4/6
Nuno Borges v Raphael Collignon
The world number 43 should not have a trouble when he takes to court for his opening round match against the 92nd-ranked Raphael Colingnon but what could make a bit of a difference is that this will be his first clay court match of the season.
On the other hand, Collignon had earlier featured in the Neapol Challenger while overcoming Fabio Fognini in straight sets in the first round here. Which is also probably why Borges, despite having started off a favourite is still rather long at 3/5 to win this.
This isn’t to say that Borges doesn’t have the arsenal to play on clay – his maiden ATP title came last year and it was on the clay courts of Bastad. If anything, those odds of 3/5 could just be the perfect way to encash a safe bet for a player in decent form for the season (13-10 win-loss).
Borges v Collignon Tip: Borges to win: 3/5
