All the 2025 Bucharest Open quarterfinals will be played on Friday, April 4 as Sebastian Baez, Pedro Martinez and Flavio Cobolli take to court. Get the best predictions and tips for the day from ATP Bucharest Open 2025.
Sebastian Baez v Francisco Comesana
World number 36 Sebastian Baez has fellow Argentine and 64th-ranked Francisco Comesana in the quarterfinals in what will be their second meeting at this level and third overall. The first time they faced off was on the Futures circuit in 2019 before they met again in Santiago earlier this year and while Baez won both times, the matches went into three sets apiece.
And Baez is coming off another three-setter in his second round win over Gabriel Diallo, having received a first round bye before that. With three successive losses under his belt, Baez finally got on to the wins chart with that Diallo victory but it came with a lot of huff and puff,
It would be a relief for Baez but now comes a bigger battle against a player who had earlier made the semifinal of the Rio Open and has already defeated Martin Klizan and Roberto Bautista-Agut in the first two rounds here.
This makes for a delicious clay court meeting between these two that could go either way. We could see a three-setter here.
Baez v Comesana Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
Flavio Cobolli v Filip Misolic
World number 45 Flavio Cobolli faces the 232nd-ranked and qualifier Filip Misolic for a place in the semifinal.
Cobolli, who last won successive matches in a tournament in the first week of the season when he participated in the United Cup, then went on a seven-match losing streak which was broken only by a victory at the Phoenix Challenger.
Even there, he was knocked out in the second round before losing another opener in Miami. Which is his three-set win over Richard Gasquet in the second round here following an opening round bye, was his tour-level win since January first week and would have given him a lot of relief.
Cobolli will now be hunting for a rare place in the semifinal something he managed just twice last year, when he faces Austrian qualifier Misolic.
Misolic had made the main draw with successive straight-set wins, then routed Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 6-4 to make it to the second round. And in the second, Misolic stunned Camilo Ugo Carabelli, dropping just four games on his way to grab the victory.
Things could get rather interesting in this one with another three-setter expected.
Misolic v Cobolli Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
Pedro Martinez v Damir Dzumhur
The 47th-ranked Pedro Martinez could face a tough quarterfinal outing when he takes on the 65th-ranked Damir Dzumhur on Friday. This will be the second meeting of their career having met only as recently as in February where Martinez had come back from a 6-0 first set loss to defeat Dzumhur in Buenos Aires.
Martinez, who had a first round bye, was on a six-match losing streak coming into his second round match against Stan Wawrinka and when he lost the first set to the veteran it looked like things were going against him again.
Fortunately for Martinez, Wawrinka’s level has ceased to remain consistent throughout the match the way it used to be and he came back to win the next two 7-5, 6-2. In turn he broke his losing streak and gives himself a chance to make it to his second semifinal of the season having last done it on the clay courts of Buenos Aires.
Dzumhur could have other ideas. The quarterfinalist at the Santiago Open and a semifinalist two weeks ago in Zadar on the Challenger circuit, defeated Valentin Vacherot in the first round here. In the second, he was taken to three sets before coming through Filip Cristian Jianu.
What we could get here is another tight encounter and our third successive, three-set prediction.
Martinez v Dzumhur Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
