The Bucharest Open semifinals will be held on Saturday, April 5 with Sebastian Baez and Flavio Cobolli leading today’s action. Get the best predictions and tips for the day from ATP Bucharest Open 2025.
Sebastian Baez v Marton Fucsovics
Their only previous meeting had come on the clay courts of the Lyon Open in 2023 and Baez had won it in straight sets. And that’s how we think this match could go as well as the 36th-ranked Sebastian Baez faces the world number Marton Fucsovics.
Make no mistake, Fucsovics has been a deserving semifinalist here with wins over Luca Nardi, Mariano Navone and Christopher O’Connell. Here he’s up against a player who is not only more than 50 spots ahead of him in the rankings but also one of the better clay court players around in the world at the moment.
Baez has a Rio Open title under his belt already this season and then made the final of the Santiago Open. And while he was stretched to three sets in both his previous meetings, one could see how Baez can fight his way through even when not at his best.
We can expect the same here too and while he might still need three sets, we believe Baez has a good chance to make his third clay-court final of the season.
Baez v Comesana Tip: Baez to win: 8/11
Flavio Cobolli v Damir Dzumhur
World number 45 Flavio Cobolli will be up against the 65th-ranked Damir Dzumhur for a place in the final in what will be their first match at this level. That being said they have faced off three times before this at the Challenger circuit and Dzumhur has won twice. On clay, it’s 1-1.
Following a first round bye and a three-set victory over Richard Gasquet in the second round, Cobolli made it through to the semifinals with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Filip Misolic.
Just 22 years of age, Misolic had tried to get to the main draw here on two previous occasions but never done it. This time around he has made it to the semifinal, just the second time in his career that he has gotten this far at this level.
Why things get really difficult here is the form of Dzumhur, who led Pedro Martinez 6-1, 2-0 before his opponent retired from their quarterfinal match. Dzumhur had also come off a semifinal appearance in a Challenger competition before this and has a 10-5 record on clay this season (including all levels of tennis).
We expect this to go into a third set with Dzumhur holding an edge.
Cobolli v Dzumhur Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
