All the quarterfinal matches at the 2025 ATP Munich Open will be played on Monday, April 14 as Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton and Learner Tien are in our radar for the day. You can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament today.
Alexander Zverev v Alexandre Muller
This will be the second meeting between these two players with Alexander Zverev having routed Alexandre Muller in the first round of the US Open last year. What makes this matter different this time is Zverev’s form this time which has seen him lose seven of his last 13 matches.
On clay, Zverev is 3-3 for the season and is coming off a shock opening defeat at the hands of Matteo Berrettini at the Monte-Carlo Masters. It almost seems like Zverev hasn’t quite been able to bring himself to his best since losing the final of the Australian Open to Jannik Sinner.
And that’s where Muller might have a bit of an advantage when he takes to court for this opener. Because Muller has some form going this year having won a title in Hong Kong at the start of the season and then having made the final of the Rio Open – a tournament played on clay.
More recently, he made the quarterfinals of the Marrakech Open and the second round at Monte-Carlo. While overcoming Zverev could still be a bridge too far or at least a bigger challenge than most others he has faced this season he could pull off something here. A set may be.
Zverev v Muller Tip: Muller to win a set – Yes: 8/5
Ben Shelton v Borna Gojo
This will be the first meeting between Ben Shelton and Borna Gojo and the world number 14 Shelton would want to believe things will get easier for him on clay as he takes on his 410th-ranked opponent.
That’s because in his first match on this surface for the month which came earlier this month, Shelton had gone down to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina despite having won the opening set.
Overall in his career, Shelton might have registered a career-high ranking of 12th in the world and won the title at the Houston Open on clay last year but it’s definitely not his most preferred surface.
On the other hand, Gojo is coming off successive qualifying wins to clinch his opening berth but across the previous three clay-court tournaments he has played this year, he hasn’t made it past the opening round. This includes a first round loss at a Challenger and another to Vit Kopriva at the Marrakech Open.
He will have a mountain to climb here and we could see a straight-set result in favour of Shelton.
Shelton v Gojo Tip: Shelton to win in straight sets: 11/20
Learner Tien v Tallon Griekspoor
The 35th-ranked Tallon Griekspoor will be up against the world number 69 Learner Tien in what will be their first meeting at this level.
Griekspoor had a bit of a solid run in his first tournament on clay for the season when he made the final of the Marrakech Open. While he lost that match to Luciano Darderi, he would have been feeling good about having gotten that far when he took to court at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Unfortunately for Griekspoor he was left with too much to do when he played Arthur Fils, losing to the Frenchman in three sets. That being said, Griekspoor has had a solid season otherwise too, holding a 14-8 win-loss record for the year so far as he takes on a player who had a decent start to the year but has fallen away a little more recently.
Tien made the fourth round at the Australian Open after starting out as a qualifier before entering the Acapulco Open quarterfinal, again as a qualifier. More recently though he has lost four main draw matches in a row and while he shocked Botic van de Zandschulp in the qualifiers here, he might need to do a lot better to overcome a second Dutchman in a row.
Tien v Griekspoor Tip: Griekspoor to win in three sets: 7/2
