The first round action at the 2025 ATP Munich Open continues on Tuesday, April 15 with Jakub Mensik, Francisco Cerundolo and Felix Auger-Aliassime taking to court and you can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament today.
Jakub Mensik v Yannick Hanfmann
World number 23 Jakub Mensik will have a good chance to overturn his 1-2 win-loss record against Yannick Hanfmann when they face off in the first round here in Munich. It’s 1-1 on clay with Mensik having won in Madrid last year before Hanfmann made it level just two weeks later in Rome.
Mensik has come a long way since then and is currently ranked 23rd in the world, his career-best ranking. He is also coming off a terrific run at the Miami Masters where he went on to win the title by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final and looking at that kind of record, he should start off a huge favourite.
Where that could change is Mensik hasn’t played on clay since July last year and might need some time to get going on this surface again.
He will be up against a player who loves his time on clay but has struggled to get going this season. Having featured in five clay court matches in 2025, Hanfmann has won just one with one of his defeats having also come at the qualifiers at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Backing Mensik to win but we think Hanfmann’s time on clay this year could help him push his 23rd-ranked opponent.
Mensik v Hanfmann Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 4/9
Francisco Cerundolo v Jan-Lennard Struff
World number 22 Francisco Cerundolo has never faced off against the 51st-ranked and defending champion Jan-Lennard Struff in their careers before.
The difference in their forms this year, however, is stark.
Cerundolo has a 17-8 win-loss for the season and nine of those victories have come on clay to go with four defeats. This includes a final appearance at the Argentina Open earlier in the season.
On the other hand, Struff, has won just three of the 13 matches he has featured in in 2025 and the last time he won one was over two months ago. Since his second round win over Hugo Grenier in Marseille, Struff has lost seven matches in a row including one in the first round at the Monte-Carlo where he was blown away Valentin Vacherot 6-2, 6-1.
The Argentine should not have a lot of trouble here as a result, even winning in two.
Cerundolo v Struff Tip: Cerundolo to win in straight sets: 4/6
Felix Auger-Aliassime v Mariano Navone
World number 19 Felix Auger-Aliassime has never faced off against the 70th-ranked Mariano Navone in a competitive match before this.
A quarterfinalist at this tournament last year, Auger-Aliassime will hope to go one better this time but has a tough opener to contend with. That’s to do with the fact that Navone loves his time on clay and while he hasn’t won a lot of main draw matches this season, he has already featured in 12 matches on this surface.
On the other hand, Auger-Aliassime has played just one match on clay in 2025 and lost that – his opener at the Monte-Carlo Masters. That defeat came at the hands of Daniel Altmaier who was a 9/5 underdog heading into that encounter.
Here Navone starts as short as 6/5 despite being ranked more than 50 spots behind Auger-Aliassime and that’s to do with how the two go about their business on this surface. Backing Navone to come up with something special here.
Auger-Aliassime v Navone Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
