The second round action at the 2025 WTA Rouen Open continues on Thursday, April 17 as Elina Svitolina, Linda Noskova and Olga Danilovic take to court. You can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament here.
Elina Svitolina v Anhelina Kalinina
In what will be their fourth meeting across all levels, world number 18 Elina Svitolina will face the 65th-ranked and fellow Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina for a place in the quarterfinals.
Svitolina has won all their previous three matches, having not dropped a set to Kalinina so far but all those encounters had come in hardcourt competitions. This will be their first on clay.
Having accumulated a 13-6 record in the season, Svitolina entered the clay court swing earlier in this tournament with a first round match against Jil Teichmann who is known for her performances on this surface. Svitolina did not have too much trouble getting past Teichmann, winning 6-4, 6-2 to make the quarterfinals.
Kalinina also had it easy, routing Nao Hibino 6-0, 6-4 to set up this second round meeting after having crashed out of the Charleston Open in the very first round. This win over Hibino was her first in five matches and she is now 2-7 on win-loss from her last nine matches.
Expecting Svitolina to start off a huge favourite here.
Svitolina v Kalinina Tip: Svitolina to win in straight sets: 5/6
Linda Noskova v Suzan Lamens
World number 33 Linda Noskova will face off against the 69th-ranked Suzan Lamens for the first time in her career when they take on each other in the second round here in Rouen.
Featuring in her first match on clay for the season against Bernarda Pera, Noskova was taken to task by her American opponent. She lost the first set and needed a tie-breaker in the second before coming through to clinch a second round spot on her Rouen debut.
Known more for her performances in hardcourt competitions, Noskova is coming off a quarterfinal appearance at the WTA 1000 event in Dubai and a semifinal in Abu Dhabi.
She now faces an opponent who herself was featuring in her maiden match on clay but against someone who hadn’t played before in 2025. Bianca Andreescu hadn’t made the courts before this because of a plethora of fitness concerns and while she fought hard, Lamens was able to come through in a final set tie-breaker.
Noskova is a 2/5 favourite here but we could see a much closer encounter given Lamens has held her own on clay in the past.
Noskova v Lamens Tip: Games Handicap Lamens +4.5: 10/13
Olga Danilovic v Linda Fruhvirtova
World number 39 Olga Danilovic will be up against the 159th-ranked Linda Fruhvirtova in a second round match which will also be their first meeting ever.
And while Danilovic starts off a 1/3 favourite we believe things could get a lot tighter than that.
Sure, Danilovic is on a six-match winning streak on clay which involves a title win in a WTA 125 event but there have been times when she has looked uncomfortable on clay. Like was also the case in the first round against Aliaksandra Krunic against whom she was a 1/6 favourite.
She was forced to come back from being a set down in that encounter.
Fruhvirtova also needed three sets to overpower Anna Blinkova after having entered the tournament as a lucky loser but she has shown in recent times she gives it a proper fight.
So while Danilovic looks like she has a far superior game than Fruhvirtova, the latter, a 19-year-old, looks like she has the grittiness to match up to that and as a result we could see another close one.
Danilovic v Fruhvirtova Tip: Three sets in the match: 7/5
