Mattia Bellucci will enter the new week with a ranking of 98th, his career-best. This is despite Bellucci having had a poor start to the season.
The 23-year-old Italian was sent packing in straight sets in the first round of the Canberra Challenger and then fell in the Australian Open qualifiers despite starting out as a favourite against Terence Atmane.
And then featuring in the Quimper Challenger, Bellucci failed to win a set against the 6/4 underdog Constant Lestienne – also in the first round.
Bellucci has a decent record in indoor hardcourt competitions, having also won two lower-level competitions on it but he will be a touch worried about his form entering this encounter.
Pouille Hoping to Continue Upward Push
Once ranked 10th in the world, Lucas Pouille slid down to 70th in the world at the end of the 2020 season. He was out of the top 150 a year later, and 283rd and 250th at the end of 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Since then, Pouille has begun his upward push, winning two Challenger tournaments in 2024 to aid him in that endeavour. In 2025, however, Pouille hasn’t gotten going so far.
He started off with a qualifying appearance in Brisbane where he reached the second round but didn’t make the main draw. And then at the Australian Open, he was drawn to take on the eventual finalist Alexander Zverev, losing in straight sets.
Still, his record indoors seems to be solid enough to cause his opponent some stress here.
