Erika Andreeva v Dominika Salkova Head to Head
Andreeva and Salkova have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Andreeva Coming off Aus Open Second Round
Erika Andreeva hadn’t made much of a start to the 2025 season as she fell to a first round loss at the Auckland Open to Katie Volynets and then lost in the qualifiers of the Hobart International.
Fortunately for Andreeva, she was drawn to take on the 686th-ranked Zheng Saisai in the first round of the Australian Open and she managed to eke out a straight-set victory there.
In the second round, however, Andreeva fell in two easy sets to Beatriz Haddad Maia, leaving a few question-marks around her place at the highest level.
Because while she has improved over the years, the change hasn’t been too drastic – she was 135th in the world at the end of the 2022 season and started this year ranked 83rd.
So while that allowed her a direct entry into the Australian Open Andreeva would now hope to improve even further to match up to the inevitable comparisons with her sister Mirra.
Salkova Comes Through the Qualifiers
Following back to back defeats at the Canberra ITF and the Australian Open qualifiers, Dominika Salkova entered her qualifiers in Singapore with a bit of a question-mark over her form.
She was a 9/11 to win her opening qualifier Anna Karolina Schmiedlova and took some time in edging past her Slovakian opponent in straight sets.
Following this, Salkova entered the main draw of a WTA competition for only the third time in her career when she defeated Nao Hibino in her second qualifier 6-4, 6-1 despite being 1/1 odds to do so.
Things will get slightly tougher now for the Czech player but she does have a solid lower circuit record in indoor hardcourt competitions.
