There has been only one previous meeting between these two players which came on the clay courts of Valencia in 2022. Grabher had won that in three hard-fought sets.
Potapova Makes Decent Start
Once ranked 21st in the world, Anastasia Potapova has made a decent start to the 2025 season but she would like to do a tad better than that.
Featuring in the Brisbane International, Potapova defeated Anna Bogdan and Dayana Yastremska in the first two rounds before falling to Kimberly Birrell in the quarterfinal there despite being a 1/2 going into that match.
She started off with a straightforward win over Tamara Zidansek in the first round of the Australian Open but Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova got the better of her in the second.
Potapova returns to a competition where she had won her second WTA title back in 2023 and followed that up with a quarterfinal appearance in 2024. Can she match up to those performances here?
Grabher’s Fallen to 454th in the Ranking
Julia Grabher had a career-best ranking of 54th in the world in mid-2023. Just a year and a half later, she has fallen to outside the top 450 thanks mainly to a wrist injury that she suffered at the end of that season.
She had returned to competitive tennis in 2024 and while she has been able to use her protected ranking, things haven’t yet looked good for her.
The Austrian player was forced to feature in a plethora of ITF competitions in 2024 and won just 21 of the 40 matches she featured in. And playing at the US Open, she was bundled out in the first round there.
Which is why when Grabher won her opener at the Auckland Open, it was her first victory in over 18 months and a bit of a relief. While she lost her next two matches – to Naomi Osaka and Xiyu Wang – she will hope she can turn things around here in Linz.
The bookmakers don’t seem to think so though with Grabher starting out a 5/1 underdog here.

Backing Potapova for a win for obvious reasons but those odds of 1/11 don’t make it too appetizing. Instead, we think we could see a fight from Grabher that makes the games market more tempting.
