Alexander Bublik v Dominik Koepfer Head to Head
While they have never faced off at the highest level before this, there has been one meeting on the Challenger circuit where Koepfer won in three sets.
Bublik Enters Tournament with 1-7 Record
Alexander Bublik’s run of defeats runs into the previous year with the world number 39 having lost seven of his previous eight matches played.
If you want to count the three matches he played in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown competition, those resulted in three further defeats, underlining an issue for him.
Two of those seven losses have come in the 2025 season with the defending Montpellier Open champion failing to win a set in both those encounters – going down to Miomir Kecmanovic in Adelaide and then to Francisco Cerundolo at the Australian Open.
What this means is that despite being up against a player who is ranked about 80 spots behind him, there will be a few question-marks around this result.

Koepfer Makes it Past Barrere
Gregoire Barrere would have thought he has a chance against a player who is more a clay-courter than any other surface but Dominik Koepfer found a way to register his maiden main draw win of the season.
Koepfer, who had come into this opening round match with three first round defeats from three competitions – two of which came on the Challenger circuit – clinched a place in the round of 16 with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory.
In a match lasting an hour and 35 minutes, Koepfer was broken twice, both of which came in the second set.
In fact in a topsy-turvy second set, Barrere even had a set-point while Koepfer himself served for the match but it took a tie-breaker to help the German win it.
The question now is whether Koepfer will face a struggling Bublik or one who finds a way to get past his own troubles.
Bublik v Koepfer Prediction
Despite Bublik’s obvious struggles, it’s tough not to back a player like him in a match like this especially when he has, in the past, found a way out of his troubles too. It wasn’t too long ago when he had gone through something similar but came back into his own.
