Cirstea in a Fighting Win over Rus
There wasn’t much to choose between Sorana Cirstea and Arantxa Rus before they faced off in their first round match in Linz.
And the match panned out in exactly a similar manner with Cirstea needed to come back from being a set down to clinch her first win of the season.
In a match that went on for two hours and 14 minutes, Cirstea failed to serve out the set at 5-3 as Rus broke her twice in a row to grab a comeback-from-behind set win.
That didn’t seem to deter Cirstea too much though as she broke Rus three more times in the match to clinch it 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 and seal her place in the second round.
This result followed a string of five successive defeats for Cirstea dating back to September 2025 when she had won her last match at this level.
